Power Washing
If you’re a homeowner, there’s a good chance that power washing is one of your least favorite chores. It can be tedious, time-consuming and downright frustrating. But all it takes to make the process much more tolerable is the right strategy for tackling the job.
Power Washing
Here are three quick steps you can take to make your power washing session more effective.
1) Know when to use the sprayer and when to use the brush
Don’t use your pressure washer on every section of your house. Some areas of the exterior may look dirty, but they really just need to be scrubbed with a brush and some soapy water. Power washing will blast off any loose dirt and grime, leaving you with a clean surface ready to repaint or stain. If there’s a common mistake people make during their power washing, is getting rid of all of their sponges, brushes and soap buckets in favor of the sprayer attachment. This is a big mistake. If you’re only going to use a sprayer, you’re going to miss out on a lot of dirt and grime that could have been easily removed with some good old-fashioned scrubbing.
2) Clean off windows before power washing the rest of your house
After you’ve finished the first part of your power washing session, it’s a good idea to wash off any dirt and grime from windows before continuing with the rest of your house. If you get all of your house cleaned off by the time it’s time to power wash, you’re already ahead of the game. But if you’ve got some windows on your house, make sure they’re clean before you spray everything down with water. You’ll save yourself a lot of time and hassle by making this simple step.
3) Rinse off walls after using soap
If you want to have the best looking power washed surface, you’re going to have to rinse off your walls with some plain water. This will remove any excess soap residue that might be clinging to certain spots on your wall.
When it’s time for your soap spray, don’t stop rinsing! It’s important to keep the soap well-mixed with water as you’re spraying because this will save you time later on. But don’t forget to rinse off your walls after your power washing session is done! You’ll avoid having to scrub off any excess soap residue that might be left on the surface of your house.
Don’t feel like you need to use your pressure washer on every part of your exterior at once. Certain spots, like underneath windows where it’s hard to reach with a brush, may look dirty, but they really just need that rinse off.
If you follow these three quick steps, power washing won’t seem so daunting. You’ll be ready to tackle the next tough task on your list with a little more ease!
