Disc Golf Course

Morristown has a disc golf course for every skill level. You can “grip it and rip it” at Kiwanis or Rotary, or you can get technical and learn proper technique on the more advanced courses at Cherokee and Panther Creek. The city of Morristown is becoming known as the Disc Golf Capital of Tennessee, and local businesses see a boost in business during tournament weekends.

This 58 acre park features the Morristown area’s newest off-leash dog park as well as athletic fields, a disc golf course, walking trails and a playground. It is also home to the Hamblen County Disc Golf Association and hosts a yearly state championship event. It is a great place to take your family, friends, or out of town guests to enjoy the sport of disc golf. The park is open from sunrise to sunset for the benefit of all who use it. Please respect the property and help keep it clean by disposing of trash and helping new disc golfers learn the game.

Playground

Kids will find plenty to do here, from the wildly imaginative blue foam building blocks that fit together every which way to the splashy water-play area (along with sprayers and barrels they can cool down in and park helpers to facilitate mini builders’ grand plans). This playground is designed for kids aged 5-12, while nearby Tarr-Coyne Playground is great for toddlers.

Children are finely tuned to the small wonders of the world and the magic of a playground sometimes lies in little details rather than big structures and elements. Infuse your playground with plenty of these touches. A cyclo cone plus climber adds fun while helping kids work their upper-body strength, and spring riders allow them to pretend to be animals or people zipping through the air.

The playground has equipment certified to meet the surfacing guidelines of ASTM and CPSC, which ensure that the surface beneath and around play equipment is safe for children’s falls. These guidelines are for all types of playgrounds and can be used in schools, child care facilities, institutions, multiple family dwellings, parks, and resorts. A great place to also visit is Cherokee Park.

Davy Crockett Museum

A frontiersman, soldier, politician and defender of the Alamo, David Crockett is one of America’s most iconic folk heroes. He is immortalized in statues, monuments and two state parks in Tennessee and Texas. Walt Disney portrayed him in television shows and movies, and he was a popular attraction at Disneyland until the park closed in 1955.

The Davy Crockett Museum is a replica of the boyhood home of the legendary frontiersman and folk hero. It is a National Historic Landmark and a museum where visitors can learn more about the larger than life figure of Davy Crockett. The museum is open year round and offers exhibits, programs and events. A gift shop on the premises sells books, posters, prints, coloring books, coonskin caps, pins, postcards and specialty food items.

The building housing the museum was once a Methodist Church and later a courthouse annex. It was purchased by the county in 1956 and became a museum in 1998.

Athletic Fields

The Kiwanis Disc Golf Course at Wayne Hansard Park is one of the reasons Morristown has become known as Tennessee’s Disc Golf Capital. This 18-hole course has a dual basket setup and is a mix of wooded and open holes with different tees to accommodate both beginners and advanced players. It was the first Disc Golf course in Morristown and it is still a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.

Morristown also boasts an excellent array of restaurants, shops, and museums. The town’s most famous landmark is the Davy Crockett Museum and Park, a recreation of the frontiersman and folk hero’s home. The museum has a large collection of artifacts from the American pioneer era and is a fun place to learn more about this colorful figure. The downtown area is also a great spot to visit for shopping and dining, with many antiques, pottery stores, clothing boutiques, and other shops to browse. Discover more interesting articles.
