Located on Cherokee Lake, the beautiful 178-acre public park offers lakeside camping, picnic pavilions and playgrounds, hiking trails, 18 hole championship disc golf course, the Jefferson Federal Citizen Tribune amphitheater for concerts and a marina.
The Rose Center Museum is housed ina a repurposed 19th century school building and hosts the annual Mountain Makins folk life festival each fall. Encore Theatrical Company presents live community theatre throughout the year. See our home page.
Splashpad
One of the Lakeway Area’s most popular parks is Cherokee Park, located on Cherokee Lake. This gorgeous waterfront park is home to concerts and parties throughout the year and is the site of lakeside camping, a splash pad, walking trails, playgrounds and picnic pavilions.
This small fountain-style splash pad is within walking distance of Market Square and can be enjoyed during a visit to the Morristown Farmer’s Market this summer! This splash pad is free and open to the public.
This family aquatic center has a splash pad, pool with 2 slides and a plunge pool. There is a small admission fee.
Walking Trails
The park offers walking trails for hikers, runners, mountain bikers and equestrians. There are 30 miles of hiking trails with varying difficulties. Some of the most popular trails include Point Lookout Loop Trail, which reaches 1,460 feet above sea level and is a popular vista at any time of year.
Wayne Hansard Park is another great option for outdoor recreation with a disc golf course, skate park and BMX race track. The park also features a playground and a splashpad.
The Crockett Tavern Museum is a historic site that preserves the legacy of frontiersman and folk hero Davy Crockett. The museum features exhibits on the tavern’s history, including artifacts from the frontiersman’s life. Visitors can learn about his journey from a farmer to a politician and explorer. Disc Golf
Disc golf is a fun and challenging sport for both newcomers and experienced players. Morristown’s disc golf course has been rated as one of the best in Tennessee, and it offers a variety of holes to test your skills. It is a great place to improve your accuracy and finesse.
Located within Pickett CCC Memorial State Park, this course features a mix of wooded and open holes. Its layout is a bit more advanced than Panther Creek and offers more challenges to experienced players.
You can also visit the nearby 1907 Brewing Company to grab a pint of craft beer after playing your round. The brewery is family-friendly and allows BYOB. The brewery is also the host to live music and events throughout the year.
Camping
Enjoy the beauty of nature at Cherokee Park Morristown TN’s year-round Fall Creek campground. This well-maintained RV camp offers spacious shady sites for big rigs, including monthly and seasonal rentals with full hookups. A coin laundry, dump station, and store provide campers with necessities while hiking trails, a sand beach, catch-and-release fishing pond, playground, basketball courts, and more keep kids and adults active.
The nearby Rose Center Council for the Arts hosts concerts, art classes, and a local history museum in an old Victorian schoolhouse. Other entertainment in the area includes Encore Theatrical Company, Lakeway Children’s Choir, and MVMT Performing Arts, offering training in a variety of dance disciplines and musical theatre. Guests can also visit the Family Fun Zone for bumper cars, laser tag, escape rooms, and more.
Hamblen Marina
The Hamblen Marina at Cherokee Park provides boat slips for both houseboats and non-houseboats, pontoon rentals, a ship store with snacks, soft serve ice cream, slush puppies, fuel and other supplies. It also features a gas dock, trailer pump and a restroom.
The Cherokee Reservoir is a beautiful lake that offers water skiing, wakeboarding, knee boarding and tubing. It is a great place for fishing, too. You can find a lot of different types of fish in the reservoir, including walleye, sauger and bass.
Morristown is a wonderful town with many things to do, and there is plenty of excitement here. However, the crime rate is higher than the national average. There are many upscale subdivisions and some fast food restaurants, but there are also old deteriorating neighborhoods and factories. Next blog post.
