This campground on Douglas Dam offers 61 RV and tent campsites, with 51 having electric and water hookup. The park also features a public boat ramp, swimming beach and picnic area. It is located near Trotter Bluff Small Wildlife Area, which has walking trails that feature 30 acres of hardwood forest with limestone sinkholes and spring wildflowers, plus vistas of the dam and tailwaters. Sites
The Douglas Dam Headwater campgrounds are located near the lake and feature 61 RV sites with electric and water hookups. There are also four primitive tent sites. The campgrounds offer a boat ramp, swimming beach and hiking trails.
The campsites are large and have a lot of shade. The bathrooms are clean, but you should bring hand sanitizer. There is only one shower per ring, so you may experience a bit of a wait to use it.
This TVA public recreation area is a great place to visit for both families and fishermen. There are many hiking trails to explore, and the area is home to a variety of wildlife. It’s a short drive to Knoxville, Pigeon Forge and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The maximum stay at this campground is 21 days in the high season and 30 days in the off-season. Amenities
Douglas Dam Headwater Campground and Tailwater Campground are two of the public recreation areas managed by TVA. Guests enjoy access to the lake as well as a swimming beach, boat ramp, fishing pier and picnic areas.
The campground has 61 tent and RV campsites with water and electric hookups, along with bathhouses, a dump station and a camp store. Most sites are right on the water with scenic views. Pets are welcome in the campground but must be kept on a leash at all times.
Located about 25 miles from Knoxville, the campground is close to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Pigeon Forge. Other nearby attractions include Trotter Bluff Small Wildlife Area with walking trails and the cliffs of Douglas Dam. Boat Ramp
Located next to Douglas Dam, this TVA campground has 60 RV and tent spots, 54 of which have electric and water. There is also a swimming beach, boat ramp, and 3 bath houses. Guests can also enjoy hiking on the newly developed Trotter Bluff trail, which leads to the top of a towering chestnut tree and offers spectacular views.
The manmade Douglas Lake has 550 miles of shoreline and offers visitors plenty to do. Take a dip at the public swimming area near Douglas Dam, or navigate around and find sandy beaches tucked along coves and islands.
Motor around the lake at your own pace in a pontoon boat rental from Mountain Cove Marina. This new outfitter, launched in 2021, has a fleet of Crest pontoon boats for rent, each equipped with 115 HP four-stroke Mercury Outboard engines and AM/FM radios.
Fishing
A day on Douglas Lake offers fishing opportunities in a beautiful setting, with towering mountains looming over the blue water. This man-made reservoir is rated among the top crappie and largemouth bass lakes in the country, and you can also reel in sauger, white, and striped bass. Fishing is available year-round, but spring and fall are ideal seasons for angling.
You’ll need a Tennessee fishing license to enjoy the outdoors at Douglas Headwater, which can be purchased online for residents and non-residents. You’ll also want to familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations for this reservoir, including size and catch limits.
